Creative Network Presents: A Dramatic Encounter with Barrie Rutter

Thursday 26th August 2010

Barrie Rutter is the artistic director of Northern Broadsides, a theatre company that specialises in producing Shakespeare in Yorkshire accents and which famously brought Lenny Henry to the classical stage in his production of ‘Othello’.

Other productions include The Canterbury Tales, Lisa’s Sex Strike and Accidental Death of an Anarchist. His current production ‘The Game’ will commence a national tour in mid- September this year.

Barrie’s warmth and humour defines his distinctive approach and he has won numerous awards for his work including the country's largest and most lucrative arts prize - Creative Briton 2000.

Harper’s and Queen commented;

“If someone ever creates an arts version of Mount Rushmore, they should carve it into the Pennines and chisel Barrie Rutter’s imposing features in the foreground”

A hugely entertaining speaker, this will be of interest to anyone working within or across the cultural and creative sectors in the Yorkshire Region.
